The Gearloose master lap is an 8-inch aluminum plate intended as a carrier for polishing compounds and adhesive polishing sheets. It is supplied with a 1/2-inch spindle hole and a flat-turned surface.
The lap is used as a substrate for cerium oxide, tin-lead alloys, or adhesive Ultra Lap sheets. The manufacturer lists the lap as compatible with Ultra Tec, Facetron, and Polymetric faceting machines.
Master laps in this format are consumable relative to the polishing medium applied; the substrate itself is typically reused across many polishing sessions.
