Gemmological Refractometer, 1.30 – 1.81 RI

Overview

A standard gemmological refractometer with a 1.30 to 1.81 refractive-index scale and an integrated polarizing filter. Scale divisions are 0.01 RI; finer readings are interpolated by the user.

The instrument ships with a small quantity of refractive-index contact liquid at approximately 1.81 RI. The liquid is used to establish optical contact between the gemstone facet and the hemicylinder.

The hemicylinder is the limiting wear surface on an instrument of this class; replacement hemicylinder assemblies are available from the manufacturer as service parts.
